LAVENDER

2015

Lavender

(accent on the second syllable)

lavender, she says it with the sound

of a whisper

lavender lavender

lavender

like a sigh let out without sorrow

gentle warm air passes

from mouth to ear

say “lavender”

“La—”

and feel the tip of your tongue swipes

through your palate

the bending of tongue

like dancing ballet

then “—ven—”

the almost biting of the lower lip

like on the brink of a

kiss

almost touching

almost breaking

then “—der”

the final loosening of the tension

like the out-break of a tiny spirit

disappearing in midair

“Lavender”

only she says it so

delicately

“Lavender”

says it like a whisper

“Lavender”

tenderly

“La—ven—der”
